WILLIAM'S OBITUARY

U.S. Veteran  

William C. “Shakey” Hayes, 81, of Elyria, died peacefully January 11, 2022 at his home after a brief illness.  He was born July 11, 1940 in Elyria and was a 1958 graduate of Elyria High School where he helped coordinate reunions.  In 1958 he enlisted in the US Navy, where he served until 1961 then joined the Merchant Marines.  From 1964-2000, Shakey was employed by Budweiser.  For 25 years, he enjoyed spending time at his residence and boat at Maple Grove Marina.  Other hobbies include golf, snowmobiling, three-wheeling and being with his friends.  He was a member of Elyria United Polish Club, Elyria Eagles, VFW and Amvets. 

 

Shakey is survived by son, Erik Hayes of Elyria; daughter, Kandice (Eric) Schneider of Fort Myers, FL; sister, Karen (Joseph) Ramirez of Elyria; his former wife and friend, Carolyn (nee Keiffer) Hayes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Louis Hayes; brother, Lt. Thomas C. Hayes; twin siblings, Jean VanCamp and James Hayes; and his beloved companion dogs, Thor and Fuji. 

 

Services for the family are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elyria.  Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.WILLIAM'S OBITUARY
