(This is post, Rodney (Ruffing - Susan's son) recently sent me:

Susan (Schowalter) Ruffing born on May 14, 1940, passed away July 8, 2026 at Ohio Health Hospice House, Columbus, Ohio. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Arthur & Alice (Weston) Schowalter, twin sister, Sally Walters, former husband Ray Michael Ruffing and best friend, Jim McGill. She is survived by her son Rodney (wife Rosemary) Ruffing and daughter Sara (Moore) Ball of Columbus, Ohio, 4 grandchildren: Leona (McKenzie) Culver, Melissa (Smith) McMurray, Robert5 Levi Moore and Danielle Ball, 10 great grandchildren, Jazmine, Keira & Sierra Smith, Dwayne, Daniel, Daya, David and twins Desmond and Destiny McKenzie and Liam Moore.

She was a graduate of Elyria High School, class of 1958 and was crowned Homecoming Queen. She attended college at Wittenburg University and Ohio State University. She continued with her masters and doctural eduation which fueled her passion for public service. She was founder/program director of the League Against Child Abuse in 1988, helped launch/participate in many programs/org. and work. for Catholic Social Services. In 2007 she started food pantry drives in Lorain Co., totaling 50 food drives by 2014. Her life was filled with many other accomplishments. Thank you friends and family for prayers, love, visits and Christ-like compassion you showed our mother. Thanks to Riverside Methodist Hospital and Ohio Health Hospice House for treating our mother with the utmost dignity and care. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Rosemary & Rodney will post that info as soon as arrangements are made.
