
Dorothy A. Hopkins-Broome (nee Brown), 71, of Elyria, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at her residence, with her husband and children at her bedside. Dorothy, the daughter of Harold and Mary (nee Welburn) Brown, was born August 25, 1939 in Elyria.
She was a 1958 graduate of Elyria High School. Dorothy married John A. Hopkins, Sr., of LaGrange in 1959. They were the proud parents of John A. Hopkins, Jr., Jacqueline A. Hopkins and Janet A. Lupico. They were together for 34 years until his death in 1993. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was active in her children’s activities, spending countless hours with “Linda’s Lassies”, 4-H, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, sports events and PTA. She and her late husband enjoyed attending church, working in their yard, spending time with friends and family and riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles. She worked for 20 years at LaGrange Screw Products in LaGrange and retired in 2001. Dorothy remarried in September 2001 to Thomas J. Broome. Together, they enjoyed attending church, taking long rides in the car and purchasing a new home in Elyria. Dorothy’s children wish to express their gratitude and love to Tom for the never-ending love and support he gave to their mother, not only as her husb
and and friend, but as her caregiver, until her passing.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas J. Broome; one son, John A. Hopkins, Jr. of Elyria; two daughters, Jacqueline A. Hopkins of Elyria and Janet A. Lupico of Lodi; three grandchildren, Sarah Weichman, Vincent and Antonio Lupico; one sister, Roberta Wysocki; one stepson, Charles Broome; two stepdaughters, Crystal Jones and Melissa Bischoff; and by several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a half brother, Clarence Lawson; one sister, Phyllis Jean Allen; one grandson, Guy Lupico; and by her first husband, John A. Hopkins, Sr.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M., Friday, July 15, 2011, at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 16, 2011, 10 A.M., at First Baptist Church, 11400 LaGrange Rd., Elyria. Pastor Jeff Nilius and Pastor Ron Phillips will co-officiate. Burial will be at River Road Cemetery in LaGrange.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the missions fund at First Baptist Church of Elyria
