Vivian Lee Underwood, 73, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at her home unexpectedly Monday, October 21, 2013. She was born in Elyria, and spent most of her life in Lorain.
She was a graduate of Elyria High school, class of 1958. Mrs. Underwood was employed as a LPN for EMH Healthcare, retiring in June 2012 after 40 years of service. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, where she was the church’s lector. She also was a member of the Lorain Senior Center,The Oberlin African American Genealogy, at the Oberlin Library and a volunteer at LCCC, in the Arts Department. She enjoyed reading, quilting, classical music and her church.
Mrs. Underwood is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Claude) Myrick-Bey of Mayfield Village, Ohio; sons, Charles E. Underwood Jr. of Bowling Green, Steven L. Underwood of Lorain, Louis J. Underwood and Russell B. Underwood of Cleveland; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Carmen Moore of New York City, Claudette (William) Hill of Elyria, Joyce (Gilbert) Brown of Lorain, Jennie (Alex) Drummer of Lorain, Roberta Sadler of Hercules, California; brothers, Robert Moore of Elyria, Claude Moore of Saginaw Michigan; and a host a nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Jessie Moore (nee Franklin).
Friends may call Friday, October 25, 2013 from 6 to 8 P.M. in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, 3001 Elyria Ave., Lorain, (440) 244-5200. Mass will be 10 A.M. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 309 W. 7th St., Lorain, Father Dan Divis will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
