Fred Stanley Holec 

Fred Stanley Holec, age 73, died October 6, 2013, at Coastal Carolina Hospital after several months recovering from esophageal cancer. 

He was born in Elyria, OH on April 22, 1940 to the late Fred Joseph Holec and Rose Frances Holec. 

Mr. Holec graduated from Elyria High School in 1958. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy at Ada, OH in 1962. 

While at Ohio Northern he became a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity in which he served many offices; he was a member of ONU Choral Society and concert band. He played piano and was a member of The Limelights Dance Band. He was one of two students at ONU to be listed in “Who’s Who” in American Colleges and Universities in 1960. 

Mr. Holec worked as a store manager and registered pharmacist in Dayton, OH for 5 years. He was a member of the American Pharmaceutical Association and the Miami Valley Pharmaceutical Association, OH. He was also a licensed pharmacist in the state of FL. 

He retired in 1999 after working as a sales representative with Eli Lilly and Co., Indianapolis, IN for 32 years. He worked in Ohio and North Carolina in various assignments. 

While living in NC he served as a board member on the Lynndale neighborhood association. He was on the Administrative Board for Jarvis United Methodist Church. Mr. Holec served on various committees related to his daughter’s academics, sports and music activities. He was a member of the Greenville Country Club, NC and Fairlawn Country Club in Akron, OH. 

In Sun City he was a member of Town Square Upbeats, Men’s 9 Hole Golf Group, Republicans of SCHH. Mr. Holec was a member of Lowcountry Presbyterian Church. 

He enjoyed travel in the US and abroad, reading, attending theatre, playing various card games and going to the beach. 

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Shirley Joan Holec; daughters Christine Rose Holec of Alpharetta, GA and Susan Elizabeth Holec of Atlanta, GA; his brother-in-law Paul Steven Mackenbach, his spouse Mary Jane Mackenbach and their children Mya Mackenbach Fannon (Ryan Fannon) Columbus, OH, Lea Mackenbach of Atlanta, GA and Paul Mackenbach of St. Marys, OH; and brother-in-law August James Mackenbach St. Marys, OH. 

A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Lowcountry Presbyterian Church, 10 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton, SC. A reception will be held after the service at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Ohio Northern-College of Pharmacy, or the Lowcountry Presbyterian Church
