Charles E. “Chuck” Singer, 72, of Sheffield Lake, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain, following a brief illness. He was born January 3, 1941 in Lorain and was a lifelong area resident.

Chuck worked as a chemical engineer at the former General Motors Fisher Guide in Elyria for 30 years, retiring in 1991. He was a 1958 Elyria High School graduate and also a graduate of Cleveland State University. Chuck was an avid kayaker and white water raft guide in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. He enjoyed everything outdoors – hiking, biking, and his cabin in Pennsylvania with his dog, Kaiya. In his retirement, he traveled to over 50 countries and all seven continents with his backpack. He was a great father, friend and mentor to everyone who had the honor of meeting him. He will be missed by his family and many friends. Survivors include his daughter, Tammy (Tim) Singer of Elyria; granddaughter, Natasha (Shawn) Vehr; great grandson, Nicholas Vehr; former wife, Diane Singer of Elyria; and companion, Marcia Karchmer of Strongsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Teresa Singer; and a son, Charles Singer.

Friends will be received Tuesday May 14, 2013, from 4 until 7 P.M., at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Services and Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1422 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH. 44115-1901.
